Start with the fact most lighting listings will not tell you: the Ram 1500 TRX already left the factory with full LED lighting — headlights, taillights and fog lights — plus the three federally-required amber grille marker lights that come with the truck's 80-inch-plus width. So the honest framing for TRX lighting is never "replace dim halogens." It is either add auxiliary output or change the look.

That splits the category cleanly. Auxiliary output means combo light bars, A-pillar ditch lights, rock lights and fog pods — real capability for a truck built to move fast in the dark. Before you buy lighting for a TRX

  • Do not buy "LED conversion" bulb kits for the headlights. The TRX is already LED; those kits are aimed at halogen trucks.
  • Match beam pattern to purpose: spot for distance, flood for foreground, combo for general off-road use. Mounting a pure spot bar low is wasted light.
  • Plan the wiring before the light. A relay or switched fused harness with a proper ground is what separates a clean install from an electrical gremlin.
  • Auxiliary forward lighting is off-road use in most jurisdictions — check your local rules on covers and on-road operation.
  • Confirm DT-platform / TRX-specific mounting brackets. Generic "Ram 1500" mounts often do not clear the TRX front end.

Lighting FAQ — Ram 1500 TRX

Does the Ram TRX come with LED lights from the factory?
Yes. The TRX ships with full LED headlights, taillights and fog lights, along with the three amber grille marker lights required on a vehicle of its width. That is why LED conversion bulb kits — which exist to replace halogens — are not a meaningful upgrade on this truck. Real lighting gains come from adding auxiliary output or changing the styling.
What lighting upgrade actually makes a difference on a TRX?
Auxiliary lighting. A combo-beam light bar for distance and spread, A-pillar ditch lights to fill in the sides at trail speed, fog pods for low-lying dust and weather, and rock lights for night recovery or camp work. Those add output the factory system does not provide, whereas swapping the already-LED headlights or taillights mostly changes appearance.
Why does the TRX have amber lights on the grille?
They are clearance marker lights. Vehicles over 80 inches wide are required by federal rule to carry them, and the TRX's wide-body track puts it in that class. They are functional and legally required equipment, not a styling flourish — replace them with properly rated units if you restyle the grille.
